Former boxer Jermain Taylor, who was world heavyweight champion, was arrested Tuesday after biting the face and arm to a woman, who later threatened to kill him. The fighter, 38, was arrested and released in freed hours later.
Taylor, according to a statement from the Maumelle Police Department, was arrested at his home after having bitten a woman several times. The woman used pepper spray against Taylor, who chased her and threatened to kill her. Taylor has been charged with a misdemeanor and first-degree terrorist threats.
This is not the first time he has problems with the law. He is currently serving a suspended sentence of six years’ imprisonment after pleading guilty to nine felonies in 2015, including a shooting in which his cousin, Tyrone DaWayne Hinton, was critically wounded.
He did not appear at a court hearing in June in a lawsuit filed by his cousin about the incident and representatives of the former boxer then said he was in Florida with no money.
Taylor, who finished the reign of former star Bernard Hopkins as world middleweight champion in 2005, has not fought since winning the IBF title in a fight against Australian Sam Soliman in 2014 He was later stripped of his belt because of his legal problems.
