Gerard Jan Joling is a singer who was born on April 29, 1960, in Alkmaar (North Holland, Netherlands) and has a net worth of $ 20 million. In his youth, he was a model and dancer but his true passion was music and in 1980 he is part of the group Kids & Cats, with whom he publishes the single Friday night party.
His solo career begins five years later when he gets the third prize in the Soundmixshow with the song Crying. After this successful participation, it publishes its first singles: Love is in your eyes, that gives a name to its first disc, and Ticket to the tropics that is number one in the Dutch lists. His first work was followed by the albums Sea of Love (1986) and Heart to Heart (1987).
In 1988 Gerard was chosen internally to represent Netherlands at the Eurovision Song Contest. Despite his song, Shangri-la was chosen at the Nationaal Songfestival 1988. In Dublin, he suffered a cold, due to a lightning trip to the Netherlands during the week of rehearsals, something that was noticed in his performance since he had to finish making a Falsetto and preferred not to risk. He finally got the ninth place with 70pts, receiving the highest scores in Greece and Luxembourg.
After its passage by the festival, Gerard published one of its most successful discs, No more bolero’s (1989). It was number one in the Netherlands, as well as in some European countries and the former Dutch colonies in Asia. In 1992 he had a small role in the film Flodder in Amerika!
At the end of the decade, he began to develop a fruitful career as a television presenter. His programs include De waarheid, Karaoke op 4 (1996), Holiday on ice (1997), etc. However, he does not leave his musical career apart and publishes Corazon (1990), Memory Lane (1991), Eye to eye (1992), Eternal love (1994), Heel even Anders (1995), A magic Christmas (1996) and Nightlife 1997).
The arrival of the 21st century does not change at all Gerard’s career as it continues in music and television. Since 2000 he appears regularly in the Life and Cooking van Carlo Boszhard program at Irene Moors and Life 4 You. In the summer of 2003 he was presenting the radio program Uitslapen is for mietjes, and since November of that year, he is the presenter of the Shownieuws. In 2004 he jumped into the world of reality shows with Only Joling, a show about his life. In parallel, Gerard released the albums Only the strong survive (2001) and Nostalgia (2004).
In 2005 he was the presenter of the humor program Joling & Gordon over de Vloer with Gordon Heuckeroth. Their friendship leads them to found, together with René Froger, the group De Toppers. The Toppers in Concert (2005), Toppers in Concert (2007), Toppers in Concert (2008), Toppers in Concert 2010, Toppers in Concert 2011, Toppers in Concert 2012, and so on.
However Gerard did not leave his solo career apart, as evidenced by Maak me gek (2007), Bloedheet (2008), Gewoon Gerard (2011) and Ik ook van jou (2013). In 2007 he was the presenter of Sterren dansen op he ijs and So you wanna be a Popstar. In 2008 he was the presenter of Wie ben ik? Between 2008 and 2011 he hosted the Dutch version of Popstars and Holland’s got talent.
In 2009 Toppers were chosen to represent Netherlands at the Eurovision Song Contest. However, Gerard did not travel to Moscow and left the band until the end of the year. There are different reasons that explain his departure: a ski accident, disagreements with Gordon or labor incompatibility between the work of Gerard in the SBS and the NOS. However, Gerard has returned to the band and continues to work with them to this day.
Among the latest works on Gerard’s television are Sterren Springen Op Zaterdag (2012), Geer & Goor: Effe geen cent te makken (2013), Alles mag op vrijdag (2014), and K3 zoekt K3 (2015). For his part, his musical career remains equally active with his latest singles: Een vriend (2014), Ik proost met jou (2014) and Rio (2014). This last song is the English version of the same theme played by Eurovision Maywood for the 2014 World Cup.
