Greg Iles was born in Stuttgart Germany in 1961, in the middle of the Cold War. His father was the director of the hospital of the American Embassy of Germany. In 1983 he graduated from the University of Mississippi. Greg played the guitar, wrote songs and sang for Frankly Scarlet but shortly after being married quit the band and dedicated to writing novels that were one of his great passions.
His first novel, Spandau Phoenix (1993) was a veritable sales success and entered the top ten of the New York Times. The work of Iles has been translated into more than twelve languages and published in twenty countries.

In 2011 Greg suffered a terrible accident in which he was in a coma for more than 8 days, because of this accident he lost his right leg. He currently lives with his wife and son in Natchez, Mississippi.
