American actor Nelsan Ellis, 39, has died of complications following heart failure, according to The Hollywood Reporter, his agent Emily Gerson Saines. ” He was a great talent, and his words and presence will be forever missed,” added his representative.
Ellis was known for playing Lafayette Reynolds in the HBO True Blood series. “We were extremely saddened to hear of the passing of Nelsan Ellis. Nelsan was a long-time member of the HBO family whose groundbreaking portrayal of Lafayette will be remembered fondly within the overall legacy of True Blood. Nelsan will be dearly missed by his fans and all of us at HBO,” HBO said in a statement.
In the series, Lafayette worked at Merlotte’s. In the books, his character was killed but liked both the managers who survived and in the television fiction was one of the characters that remained throughout the seven seasons of the series (2008-2014).
