Kehlani Parrish, known professionally as Kehlani, is an American R & B singer and songwriter who has a net worth of $3 million. She was born in Oakland, California on April 24, 1995. He achieved fame as a member of the pop group PopLyfe, a finalist in the show America’s Got Talent.
Kehlani’s second mixtape, You Should Be Here, debuted at number 5 on the R & B / Hip-Hop listing in 2015, preceded by a sold-out North American promotional tour. In 2016, she was nominated for the Grammy Award for Best Contemporary Urban Album.
Kehlani grew up in Oakland, California. She has described her ethnicity as a blend of “black, white, Native American and Hispanic.” She was raised by her aunt because her father died when she was young and her mother was in and out of jail. She attended the Oakland School of the Arts in dance.
Early in her life, Kehlani had aspirations to go to Juilliard as a dancer, but suffered a knee injury in high school, so she turned her attention to singing. His aunt listened almost exclusively to artists R & B and neo soul, and Kehlani counts Lauryn Hill, Erykah Badu and Jill Scott among its first influences. When she was 14, Kehlani was selected to join a local pop group called PopLyfe.
Kehlani’s singing career began as PopLyfe’s lead singer. The band’s music was produced by D’Wayne Wiggins. In 2011 auditioned for the sixth season of America’s Got Talent, finished in fourth place in the final.
Kehlani left PopLyfe shortly after the America’s Got Talent final due to various administrative and contractual disputes. Between 2012 and 2013, it was Kehlani had no home of his own, going from house to house and often sleeping on the couches.
In 2013, Nick Cannon, who had been a presenter at America’s Got Talent during the sixth season, called Kehlani to ask him about being in a rap group. She agreed at first and went to Los Angeles, but ultimately did not like the direction of the group and returned to Oakland again.
A few months later, Kehlani released his first solo song on SoundCloud, called “Antisummerluv”. Cannon called after hearing the song and got him an apartment and a recording studio in Los Angeles.
In 2014 she released her first mixtape, Cloud 19. Cannon also sent her to New York City to work with producer Jahaan Sweet. Her song “Till the Morning” was chosen by Billboard as one of the “Emerging Elections of the Week” on November 7, 2014. In early 2015, Kehlani opened for G-Eazy in the second phase of his tour From the Bay To the Universe.
In April of 2015, it released its second album, “You Should Be Here”, and it counts on the collaborations of rapper Chicago Kid. A week after the release of his mixtape, it was announced that he had signed a contract with Atlantic Records.
Kehlani collaborated with Zayn on the “Wrong” track of his debut album Mind of Mine, released on March 25, 2016. In August 2016 he was part of the soundtrack for the movie Suicide Squad with the song “Gansta”.
