Right after releasing a new song collaboration, The Chainsmokers and Coldplay performed ” Something Just Like This” as the Brit Awards 2017. The song immediately climbed to #2 on the iTunes Top 100 charts.
There has been much speculation to their release prior to actually having done so. The two groups released two short clips of the song snippets, confirming the news and the expectation of many.
Just a few hours before they took the stage, The Chainsmokers and Coldplay revealed their new song collaboration, “Something Just Like This.” The song stays true to the Electronic style while also incorporating Coldplay’s more recent sound. Martins voice is heard through the entirety of the song.
The debut surprised many at the Brits 2017. The performance consisted of the chainsmokers starting off with Martin’s silhouette along sides the group. After the curtain drop, the rest of Coldplay joined the stage.
Before the performance, Martin paid tribute to singer songwriter George Michael by singing his song, “A Different Corner.” Shortly after, Michael joined Martin for a duet of one type or another when a live performance of him singing was shone onto the screen.
Andrew Ridgeley, (former Wham! co-member) held back his emotions as he delivered a speech about the “Faith” singer. “On Christmas 2016, the greatest singer-songwriter of his generation, a iconic star of his era, and my beloved friend, George Michael has passed,” said Ridgeley. “A supernova in a space of shining stars had been gone and it felt like the sky had fallen in.”
