Celebrity News: After Joshua was crowned champion by beating Wladimir Klitschko in April, the IBF clarified that it would grant a “special permit” for Joshua to negotiate with Klitschko for a rematch.
Now that Klitschko has announced his retirement, the IBF has set a deadline for Joshua to complete his match with the mandatory challenger, the Bulgarian Kubrat Pulev.
“The fight between Anthony Joshua and Wladimir Klitschko was approved with the condition that the winner should face the available contestant for a mandatory defense. The IFB learned today that Klitschko has retired. Therefore, under these conditions, Joshua must make the mandatory defense of the IBF. The available contender is Kubrat Pulev, “said Lindsey Tucker, director of the organization’s championship committee, in a talk with the website Boxing Scene.
“Negotiations should begin immediately and conclude on September 3, 2017. If there is no agreement on that date, the IBF will hold an auction to determine who promotes the fight, when and where.”
As Joshua also owns the titles of the WBA and OIB, the Briton is in a dilemma. Well in the AMB also has a mandatory challenger, the Cuban Luis Ortiz, who has manifested more than once his urgency to get that fight with the champion.
However until now, promoter Eddie Hearn – who runs Joshua’s career – has not mentioned anything about a fight with Ortiz. It has only reported that the fight with Pulev could take place in October or November in the city of Cardiff, the capital of Wales.
